Pay Syncfor Shopify POS
Shopify POS · Card terminals · South Africa

Send the sale to the card terminal. Keep the bank's answer on the order.

Pay Sync connects Shopify POS to your card terminals. The cashier taps a tile, the sale total goes to the terminal at that till, and the result is recorded on the Shopify order. Every night Pay Sync checks its records against your terminal provider's report and raises anything a person needs to look at.

Install Pay Sync from the Shopify App Store, from your Shopify admin.

Honest about what Pay Sync is and is not: Pay Sync is not a payment gateway. It does not process payments, it never creates a payment transaction in Shopify and it does not take part in checkout. The cashier finishes every sale with your shop's own custom payment method, and Pay Sync records what the terminal answered. It never blocks a sale: a terminal or network problem is raised as an exception for someone to review.

How it works

Three steps at the till.

1

The cashier taps the Pay Sync tile

The sale total goes to the card terminal paired with that till, through your terminal provider's cloud service. Nothing is retyped on the terminal's keypad.

2

The customer pays on the terminal

The terminal answers with the bank's result and the cashier sees it at the till as soon as it arrives. If the terminal or the network has a problem, the cashier keys the amount on the terminal as usual.

3

The result lands on the order

The cashier finishes the sale with your shop's own custom payment method. Pay Sync writes the terminal's result onto the Shopify order as metafields, and checks it against your terminal provider's report every night.

Built for finance, not just the till

What ships in the app, plainly stated.

Totals sent, not retyped

The sale total goes straight to the terminal at that till, so it is never mistyped. Every payment carries its own unique reference, so a retry does not charge the card twice.

The result on the order

Terminal ID, RRN, UTI, authorisation code, outcome, card scheme, masked card number and amount are written to the Shopify order as metafields. The raw request and reply are kept too, for disputes.

Refunds to the original card

A POS Return on the terminal payment method becomes a Refund to send at the till where the customer is standing. The cashier sends it to the terminal, it is limited to what the card can still take back, and it goes only through the original terminal and processor.

Nightly reconciliation

Every night Pay Sync checks its records against your terminal provider's report, per till per day, so finance stops matching card payments by hand.

Exceptions for a person to review

Orphan payments, untracked card sales, amount mismatches, refunds not sent and write-back failures are listed for someone to look at. Where exactly one match exists both ways, Pay Sync pairs an untracked sale with its payment automatically.

Try it first in Simulator mode

No terminal needed. See the whole loop, from a sale and a decline to a refund, in Simulator mode before you connect your terminal provider.

Good to know

The practical details, before you install.

Works with your terminals

Pay Sync works with card terminals on a supported terminal provider's cloud service. Contact us to check yours.

Billed through Shopify

Pay Sync is charged through Shopify, on your Shopify invoice: usage-based, per active card terminal per month. Fees are as shown on Pay Sync's Shopify App Store listing.

The limits, up front

Pay Sync works only while the POS device is online, and times and the nightly reconciliation run on South African time. The Support page lists the known limitations.
